SANTA.

Elf photo courtesy IMDB

Soooooo, sometimes I get a little...excited.

Usually about food, industrial sewing machines, or Dala horses. And I'm 26 so have learned to keep my excitement to a level that is socially appropriate, such as clapping, giggling, or shaking a person (gently) if it's a really big deal. But that all goes out the window when Santa is involved. Because it's SANTA!

And last weekend Miss Linda had to deal with a ridiculously excited me on the phone, incoherently babbling about a "train" and "Santa" and "amazing". I finally calmed down and explained that I was waiting on a train platform with a bunch of kids for Santa to come on the Holiday Train.

Because that's what happens when it's Christmas time in the city, Santa sits in his sleigh with his reindeer ON TOP A FLATBED TRAIN CAR (does he wear a seatbelt??)

It's amazing. Elves come out and help people onto the train, passing out candy canes with carols blaring out of the loud speakers.

My apologies for the atrocious picture quality but you just needed to see how decked out the train car is. I can't make this shit up.

I'd heard rumors of the Holiday Train for years but I had yet to even catch sight of it! Needless to say I was just as excited as that little boy when that train finally came around the corner in all it's glory.

It was the kick off of the holiday season for me, I came home and decorated my tree,

hung up a star, and set up my angel chimes.

Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding!!!

My Dalas are out in force and I've got a new Tree in a Can making my apartment smell pine-y.

But I didn't light it today as I was making applesauce and roasting eggplant and I thought the combination of those smells might not be a good idea.

It's odd to not have snow yet, though today was grey and cold so it was nice to snuggle up in pjs and drink cocoa. I watched all the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes Christmas episodes (The Cardboard Box has some absolutely hilarious scenes which someone has so kindly clipped into a video here) and listened to the Thin Man radio plays while assembling my early Christmas present from my parents Santa:

Tada!!! One of the delights of being in your late twenties is being able to replace your shitty IKEA furniture with better IKEA furniture. The old one had been on my hit list for ages and kicking it to the curb made my day. I got some other goodies too, and had a lovely time with Miss H walking around "Sweden" and singing along at a choral concert afterwards.

Miss H tried very hard to fit this kitchen in the cart. She has such exquisite taste!

I also got a present for this wee man! He's sleeping four solid hours at a time now which I'm pretty sure puts him on the Good List.

I love Christmas!!! I haven't even make any cookies yet, and don't even get me started on getting people presents, but it's such a lovely time of year!! If I'd been in the park in Elf when Santa needed cheer to get his sleigh off the ground, the grumpy mad would not of needed to sing my cheer level is so high. Maybe I should have it checked...

But seriously, it's a good thing I'm in such a festive mood as I've been pretty busy at work since Santa outsources his workshop these days and I'm making everyone's Army tarp messenger bag dreams come true like the good little elf I am. Which means I'm not eating my dinner until eight at night which means I almost choked on my omelet while watching today's New Girl. Lordie that was a funny episode! Also, I hate omelets. I'm not sure how I keep forgetting this. But it's all true. At least this one was buried under enough tasty toppings to make eating all that eggyness worth it. Oy.

But anyways, I have a bunch of shit to do before going to bed so wohoo, here's a blog post people! It will be a Christmas miracle if another happens before I head to Ohio so Happy Hannukah, Happy St. Lucia day, Happy Birthday to Dr. K and D-Mon, and Merry Christmas to one and all! Be Good!
